In OP's case, if his software won't work in Win 3.1 under DOSBox, the next best option would be QEMU for Android. It's theoretically possible - you can try doing what this guy did to get Windows XP running on hardware configurations that are similar to the absolute maximum settings that DOSBox can offer.įor practical purposes, though, it's not useful to attempt this instead of just either using XP in a VM, or running your software natively on a modern Windows system. I guess it should be possible with some amount of work to make it able to boot more modern Windows distributions, at least up to XP or so? But most of the time it works anyway.ĮDIT: Here is a guide for installing Windows 95 in Dosbox, and something similar might work in Turbo. It probably does a bit too many things that are out of scope for DOSBOX really. I have had some issues in some versions running some versions of the DJGPP C-compiler for instance. I do not say you are wrong (because it is consistent with what I have seen), but since DOSBOX is simulating a MSDOS-era PC on a quite low hardware level (it manages to run games written in assembler that does direct hardware-access to things) and it supports games running on 32-bit computers of the mid 1990's, I guess it should be possible with some amount of work to make it able to boot more modern Windows distributions, at least up to XP or so? I mean it is not written to boot operating systems, but it can handle games that run themselves from a floppy-image without OS, so I guess it should be able to boot into some Windows versions (those that can run on mid-1990's hardware)?īut being optimized for games I know DOSBOX will not do a perfect emulation of all hardware.
